Little Tree Preschool

Detailed Schedule

9:15 Welcome
This is a time for the children to come in, put away personal belongings, say their good-byes, and get settled. Having a designated transition period in the morning is nice for both children and parents to reduce stress and worries about being late.

9:30 Community Time
During this time we come together as a group and do most of the teacher-guided learning time. We do calendar activities including learning days of the week and months of the year. We also use the calendar to practice recognizing and extending patterns. This is also an opportunity to make observations about the weather and the world around us. We also sing songs and practice letter and number recognition.
During community time we also read our story of the week. This story helps shape the rest of our activities. We do activities and art projects based on and inspired by our current book. I choose the books we read carefully for both the story and illustration.

10:00 Snack
A nutritious snack is included with your tuition. We sit together to enjoy our food and then everyone helps to clean up. The children may eat all, part, or none of the snack as they desire.

10:15 Center Play
Each school day there will be several centers for the children to choose from to do independent and small group activities. We will not have every center every day, they will rotate and be partially dependent on our book of the week and other seasonal considerations. When the weather permits, we will spend some of this time outside as an entire group. Examples of centers include: Block Play, Dramatic Play, Math Manipulatives, Sensory Table, Book Corner, Writing Center, and an Art Table.

11:00 Teacher Guided Project
Each day we will complete a teacher guided project that relates to our book of the week or a seasonal event (holidays, changing seasons). This can vary - cutting and gluing paper and fabric, painting with brushes or fingers or sponges, collage, cooking - we can get creative in many ways.

11:20 Clean up/Community Time
The last 10 minutes of our day are spent cleaning up and organizing our things, then we come together as a group one more time. The children can share their projects, share individual work done during centers, and review what they have learned during the day.

11:30 End of Day
This is the end of our school day. Parents can come in, pick up their children, and touch base with the teacher.

Although this is a "detailed" schedule, we do not strictly adhere to any schedule. I very much believe in child-directed learning, and watch their cues. Sometimes they are done with community before the half hour is up, and pushing it leads to unproductive and cranky children. Sometimes they get caught up in a project, song, or story and would like to explore it more before they move on.
